About Emily

What I tend to specialise in, is painting Romantic figurative landscapes based around religious subjects and stories portrayed from the bible.

The reason behind producing these paintings is because I feel the descriptions of the dramatic scenes can be interpreted in many different ways, as it has been done through the art periods, so by painting in my own style.

My aim it to get the viewer thinking about religious art, maybe shock or evoke the viewer’s emotions or challenge their religious views in art.

I produce this by choosing an interesting biblical story that I can then create a painting from using mainly my imagination and some degree of reference. I am interested in looking at the light within a painting and also capturing the dramatic movement and reality of a piece. I usually tend to use stories from the book Revelation because of there dramatic scenes and stories and it is a challenge for me to be able to grasp the catastrophes within my paintings.

I have also recently been looking at introducing figures into my work focusing on how to portray them using composition, light and posture.

I am interested in bringing figurative Romantic and religious paintings into the forefront of art today.

Along my journeys I had studied various subjects within my artwork. I have enjoyed drawing from figures from life focusing on the light and different positions within a figure and I have also focused on portraits and self portraits. I have been interested portraying people and myself in unusual compositions and portraying hidden emotions within a person.
